Days 8 and 9: La Spezia (Florence) and back home

Back to Italy!  I'm pretty sure that Italy will forever hold my heart.  Everything about it was so beautiful.  We booked an all day excursion to take us to Florence-which was about a 2+ hour drive from the port.
I couldn't get enough of the Italian countryside.  Stunning!

We had a guiding walking tour through the city and enjoyed all of the sites.

The Piazza del Duomo was astounding.  It was huge and so intricate.

These gold doors were beautiful that were on the Florence baptistery.

This was on the bus ride, I of course had to bring my baguette with me.

I loved the narrow roads.

This statue was pretty random.  A man riding a giant turtle.

This was a replica of David...we walked right past the museum that has the original David in it, however, we didn't want to wait in the long line.

Ponte Vecchio

Basilica of Santa Croce...We also had 3 hours to shop and tour the city on our own.  Our only goal was to find the leather market.  The tour people told us that it was shut down, however, a local said that it was still there.  We found it and I bought a beautiful mint colored purse!

The Carrara mountains, where much of the world's marble is taken from.

We got back to the boat and had a lovely last dinner.  Our view that night out our balcony was surreal.  The picture does not do it justice.

Saying goodbye to our room the next morning.  The room never felt cramped and seemed quite large, especially for a cruise ship room!
We flew from Rome to Chicago to home.  One of the best trips that I have ever taken!
